When my son and I go out for a drive with his dog Willow, she goes crazy, barking loudly and fiercely whenever she sees another dog out the car window, whether a Great Dane or a tiny Pomeranian.
Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and cats do not evoke such a frenzy in her.
Donald Trump just seized an antique clock that caught his fancy from Marco Rubio's office to put into
his own cabinet room. Trump recently has been flaunting his presidential powers.
Huff Post, Trump’s golf outings have cost taxpayers at least $38 million so far in his second term
Hey, a guy needs to relax! But why does it cost $38 million just to play golf?
If Donald Trump would simply show a little more compassion toward other people, not only toward immigrants, but just toward you and me, his own citizens, we voters would not so strongly begrudge his excessive greed when lavishing our precious tax dollars on himself and his hobbies. He simply avoids spending even a penny of his own money. How and why he got to be such a stingy money-grubber is a strange mystery, due perhaps to his childhood deprivations? Did he not get enough love as a child? Now we are all paying the price.
Here's something else to consider. Should the US government help pay for child care, as in some
European countries, or is it better, as VP Vance advises, for a parent to stay home to care
for a child in the early years? And what about actually giving a parent a subsidy to care for a young child at home? Many European countries offer both paid family leave and paid child care. The US offers neither. Given our falling birthrate, the US needs to consider providing both paid family leave and subsidized child care to encourage and support parenthood.
Here in West Va., where my son and I live now, low income parents are actually being helped to cover child care costs. Such programs now need to be expanded to include the middle class since many new mothers do want to work, though others might prefer to stay home if offered a subsidy to do so, as in several European countries.
Donald Trump has revealed himself to be a petty tyrant by attacking the most vulnerable, even pre-school children. What is wrong with him and why did so many Americans vote for him? (It's enough to make me want to leave this country!)
Reuters, Judge Blocks Trump's Birthright Citizenship Order in Class-Action Challenge
A U.S. district judge has ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in Concord, New Hampshire, after immigrant rights advocates implored him to grant class action status to their lawsuit seeking to represent children whose citizenship status would be threatened by Trump's executive order to curtail automatic birthright citizenship.
So birthright citizenship, fortunately, still continues to be the law of the land.
Why, when he is already halting immigration and when the American birthrate is falling, would Trump also try to stop birthright citizenship? Does he want our US population to shrink? That man doesn't have ordinary common sense! American voters, hope you now realize that you made a mistake!
Sadly for US voters and citizens, Donald Trump has turned out to be a vindictive and cruel man. What is wrong with him? What happened to make him so mean and hostile to others? And why did so many Americans vote for him? Are we really such petty, selfish people? Maybe I need to go back to Honduras!
One of my daughters is a federal employee, so this is not good news for our family, especially with
the high court now allowing federal layoffs to proceed.
Wash. Post, Supreme Court refuses to allow Florida to enforce new immigration law
(Here, at least, is a small victory.)
Wash. Post, Poll finds record high share of Americans view immigration positively
A recent poll found 79% in favor of immigration. Not everyone supports deportations.
I have always advocated for increased US immigration, especially now when
the our national birthrate is tanking. Immigration not only offers new opportunities to immigrants,
but also allows our country to maintain a steady population and to continue to support older folks
like me.
ABC News, Federal Judge Blocks President Donald Trump’s Executive Orders That Seek To End Support of DEI (Another small victory against Mr. Trump.)
Promises, promises, promises, made by boastful dealmaker Trump, who had promised to make 90 trade deals in 90 days. But now those 90 days have come and gone and the total tally of his trade deals stands at exactly 2 – one with the United Kingdom and one with Vietnam. Trump keeps on moving the goalposts. So now the new trade deal deadline is August 1.
Politico, Trump team moves goalposts on tariffs again
“Such beautiful English!" Trump exclaimed. Yes, Liberia has always been English-speaking, ever since its founding as a destination for freed slaves from the USA. The Liberian president's command
of English is probably much better than Donald Trump's.
Wash. Post, D.C. man, 70, charged with first-degree murder in 1999 stabbing
There is no statute of limitations for murder. This means that prosecutors can file criminal charges for murder at any time after the crime is committed, regardless of how much time has passed. This is due to the severe nature of the crime and the principle that individuals should be held accountable for taking a human life.
After more than 25 years, this aging man had probably considered himself to be home free. But finally
the long arm of the law has reached out to bring him to justice.
Here is another recent story that caught my eye:
I am quite familiar with Marfan syndrome, since my ex-husband had this rare genetic
disorder which is dominant, not recessive. My late former husband of 24 years had Marfan syndrome, as did 5 out of 6 kids in his family, a
stroke of really bad luck, as the odds are only 50-50. He died at age 62, but not of a ruptured aorta.
He actually died of lung cancer from excessive smoking, not from Marfan syndrome. He was a lifelong chain smoker of unfiltered Camels who quit smoking much too late in life.

discovered there, so I'd like to go back.
Wash. Post, IDF strike kills Gazan children awaiting food supplements, health officials say
Trump has placed no constraints whatsoever on aid to Israel, thus allowing a genocide to go
forward with US complicity.
This shows more of Trump's twisted and one-sided thinking.

USA TODAY, Living to 100: 80% are women, report shows
We're talking here about the US, but even worldwide, women on average live longer than men. Why? Why indeed?
Healthy habits are part of the answer, but genetic factors are involved as well. Women have 2 X
chromosome genes, while men have only one. Having 2 seems better than having only one.
The female hormone estrogen is protective in many ways. Even female mammals tend to live
longer than males.
