Winter now, wondering what will happen next?

On Sunday, (January 25), a cold, dreary, and snowy day, we stayed inside as roads had not been cleared. On Monday, we were still inside and it was still cold and snowy.

So far, our home's electric system has been working well, so we have lights and heat, which is a blessing.

Ice and snow extended even to Mississippi.

A long-time friend, originally from Belgium, is relieved to know that her native country had not actually signed onto Trump's so-called "Peace Plan," as he had intimated.

My Belgium-born friend then posted this:

GOP Congressman James Comer Suggests Trump Should Pull ICE Out of Minneapolis: ‘There’s a Chance of Losing More Innocent Lives’

Another small child has been targeted by ICE. So ICE definitely needs to get out of Minneapolis now and go back to the barracks to just chill out. Better yet would be to abolish ICE altogether, as innocent people are being hurt and killed.

CBS News, 5-year-old taken into custody by ICE has active immigration case, preventing deportation for now

Ice has been seizing small children born in this country.

In an Indonesian cave system known for its prehistoric art, the oldest cave art yet found was hiding in plain sight. In a cave full of paintings that were well studied over the years, a faint hand stencil on the ceiling had been overlooked. A new chemical analysis of the stencil reveals that it dates back at least 67,800 years, an astonishing 15,000 years older than the next-oldest cave art found on the same island, Sulawesi.

My daughter Stephanie, a biologist now working in Hawaii, has been to Sulawesi. so I need to ask her about this cave.

Cuba is out of gas--that is, gasoline.  One gas station in Havana is reportedly selling it for US cash dollars until their supply runs out.

Google says: "Mexico is weighing whether to halt or scale back oil shipments to Cuba as concerns grow within President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government that continuing the policy could trigger retaliation from the United States.

A British woman, Ethel Caterman, has now been certified as the world's oldest person, seen here celebrating her 116th birthday. She may not have actually expected to live this long. Is her life still worthwhile now at age 116? Probably so, if she remains in relatively good physical and mental health. (Those living longest have always been women.)

However, the mother of a good friend, who had lived well past 100, confessed that the years after age 100 had been rather hard for both her and her family, so, in restrospect, she would have preferred to have said goodbye on her 100th birthday.

Google says: Over 90–95% of verified supercentenarians (people over 110) are women, and currently, all the top oldest living people are female. Female longevity, often exceeding men by 5-6 years, is attributed to genetic advantages (like the second X chromosome) and lower risk-taking behavior. Jeanne Calment holds the record for the oldest verified person ever at 122 years. She died in 1997. She had one child and also smoked cigarettes.
