What more can we say?

FYI, Google says: A "wife beater" is a colloquial term for a men's ribbed, sleeveless A-shirt or a tank top, usually worn as an undergarment. The controversial slang originated from a 1947 news photo of a criminal arrested for domestic violence wearing the garment, and the term was later popularized by media tropes.

The term has been showing up more on social media lately.

  • Trump officials touted a voter fraud bombshell. Their data hasn’t proved it. In fact, just the opposite--very negligible voter fraud, really almost none at all. Mostly, just a few innocent mistakes.

  • Trump’s 75-country immigrant visa ban struck down by judge

  • President Donald Trump holds a net positive job approval rating in only three U.S. states: Wyoming (+14), Idaho (+9), and West Virginia (+6), according to data projections from The Economist and YouGov. Disapproval exceeds approval in the remaining 47 states and Washington, D.C.
  • Yes, West Virginia is only one of 3 states where Trump has majority support now.
  • Here's a scene from the West Virginia State Fair that ended just today,
  • Violet Hensley, who has died at 109, was one of the last links to a bygone era of foot-stomping American folk music.

the death penalty remains legal in
California, but executions are currently paused
. Governor Gavin Newsom placed an official moratorium on the death penalty, meaning no inmates can be executed while the executive order is in place. The state has not carried out an execution since 2006.
  • Let's face the music ladies, as we get older, there are ever more single women, both widowed and divorced, and fewer and fewer single men, so that by age 100, here in the US, there are 28 to 30 men for every 100 women at this age. Most of these women have no male partner, while most of the men actually do have a female partner.
  • When we younger, there were more single men than women and we women were in great demand. Now the situation is completely reversed.

  • AI Overview
The U.S. government has begun deporting Haitian nationals following legal battles and a Supreme Court decision that allowed the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 350,000 Haitians. Immigration enforcement flights have recently landed in Cap-Haitien rather than Port-au-Prince due to severe gang violence and flight bans in the capital.
  • Some deportees don't remember ever being in Haiti and don't even speak Haitian creole.
  • Are these wholesale deportations, now decimating our US workforce and tearing apart families, what Trump voters actually wanted?  Donald Trump forgets that both his wife and his mother came here as immigrants.
  • ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
  • SSome folks are not even beibg deported back to their country or
  • Some folks are not even being deported back to their country of origin.
The first US deportees have arrived now in Liberia, so very far from home.

    CBS News

Men describe being deported by U.S. to dangerous African nation: "We cannot leave"

Venezuelans, Cubans, Colombians arrive in African nation under Trump deportation deal  The West African nation [Liberia] could receive up to 1,200 foreign nationals from the US over the next year.

Undocumented folks are no longer always being deported back to their country of origin, as that might make it too easy for them to return here. Now they will have to think twice about possibly be deported to places they've never even heard of.
Why then are they still coming here now? Really, it is just basic "supply and demand." As a businessman, Donald, you should know all about that, just simple math. We don't have enough workers here right now, so we really need more. And Trump's own followers are simply unwilling to take on the jobs that these deportees have been doing until now.

But President Trump and his goons don't seem to understand that. And automation cannot fill in all the gaps. So Donald, if you want our country to become more productive, also to keep our population from shrinking, you would soon realize that we actually do need even more immigrants, not fewer, and we really need to keep them here working right now. But since your mind has grown so fuzzy, so very confused, you just don't seem to realize that yet.

Nor are Americans producing enough babies, though the example of the Vice President's family may incentivize some.
The American birthrate seems stuck at 1.6, while actual replacement requires 2.1 children per woman. It's easier to afford having 4 children as the wife of a US vice president than for most American families.

Prince Harry, Megan, and their children are now in the UK. They will try to make a living there, as apparently they weren't doing so well back in California. As European nations lose their empires, royalty is fading, including British royalty as well, so we'll have to see what prospects they have there.

Nonetheless, the English language, considered to have originated in Britain, with influences from many other sources, has now taken over the world. According to Google, the world's #1 language is
    • English: No. 1 overall with over 1.4 billion total speakers (about 380 million native speakers).

A friend who corresponds with me in Spanish, a language derived from Latin. and said to have  originated around Rome, tells me:
Irlanda tiene un programa para evitar la desaparición del galés, q debe costar caro.

Here he is telling me (in Spanish) that Ireland has a costly program to prevent the disappearance of Gaelic. However, sometimes such efforts prove fruitless. In Hawaii, where one of my daughters now lives, efforts are underway to preserve some native languages there, but with very modest success,

Here was my Spanish-language reply to my friend:
En Hawaii, donde vive una de mis hijas, están tratando de mantener lenguas indígenas, pero en cada generación desaparacen mas.

I say that with each passing generation, there are ever fewer speakers.

Then a language becomes mostly of interest to scholars, like those who now study ancient Latin or Greek. Perhaps some eons from now, even English will become an obsolete language.

Lindsay Clancy’s defense rests at trial over whether postpartum psychosis drove her to kill her kids

We know that post partum psychosis is real, affecting most new mammal mothers as well as human mothers. It's involuntary, coming on by surprise. I've even felt it myself. If at all possible, a reliable adult should stay with the new mother for at least the first 2 weeks after childbirth. Why it ever has evolved is a mystery, as most such continuing traits actually assist survival, but this one does not. If possible, new fathers (but not the father in the next clip) should stay with their partners for at least those first 2 weeks after a birth, not even leaving the house to walk the dog or get a newspaper. In some cases, that may be overkill, but better safe than sorry. And usually a new mother will appreciate the support.

New parenthood can affect both parents' psyches, even up to the first year after a birth. It's a wonder that so many people and their families survive as well as they do. The practice in some cultures of having her own mother or a female relative stay with the new mother for a few weeks after a birth. especially of the first child, proves quite helpful. With the current fragmentation and isolation of American families, such useful traditional practices have been lost.

Of course, if a father is abusive, he should not be near either mother or baby, as may be the case in the following situation.

    PBS
Emily Moreno, daughter of U.S. (Republican) Senator Bernie Moreno) is involved in a severe legal and custody dispute with her ex-husband, U.S. Representative Max Miller (Republican). Emily Moreno has accused Miller of domestic abuse and child abuse, allegations which Miller has strongly denied. Ohio’s senior Senator is calling for Ohio congressman Miller, his former son-in-law, to drop his re-election bid and resign from office. Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno called GOP Rep. Max Miller "a danger to my daughter." Allegations and messy divorce proceedings have swirled around Miller and Moreno’s young daughter.

House Ethics Committee opens investigation into domestic abuse allegations against Ohio Rep. Max Miller

The U.S. House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it had opened an investigation into domestic abuse allegations against Republican Rep. Max Miller as the embattled Ohio congressman faced pressure from President Donald Trump and escalating criticism from his former father in law, Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno.

Aug 3, 2026 — Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno called GOP Rep. Max Miller "a danger to my daughter.."
Without knowing all the details, I would guess that Miller only got elected on his father-in-law's coattails. In this particular situation, my intuition tells me that Miller actually has been abusive. What would be the motivation for his ex-wife to make up this story about him?
Max Miller needs to resign from Congress and seek psychiatric help.

Actress Shirley MacLaine has appeared in a video at age 92. Would you even recognize her now?

YouTube, Shirley MacLaine, 92, Makes Rare Video Appearance to Send ‘Much Love’ to Her Fans

And here she was with actress Elizabeth Taylor back in 2005, 20 years ago.

    Here's another remarkable lady.
The woman seen above is now the world's oldest person. She is
Ethel Caterham of the UK, who celebrated her 117th birthday on August 21, 2026.

The oldest person ever in recorded history whose age has been verified was Jeanne Calment of France, who lived to 122 years, 164 days. So if Ethel survives just 5 1/2 more years, she will become the very oldest person ever. And the world's oldest person is always a woman. How's that for being a member of the "weaker" gender?

    =================================================

Here below, I'm seen just eating lunch at age 88, not so young myself anymore.

And here I was with granddaughter Natasha,
back when I lived in DC, only a few years ago.

And here we all were in 1980, with my family meeting with President Jimmy Carter.

Yes, we all just keep getting older, unless we actually die young, then our hair becomes less abundant and starts turning grey. We don't walk very fast anymore and have trouble keeping our balance. At some point, we will simply depart what Hamlet had called our "mortal coil".  So how many years do I have left? I really don't know. I'm not likely to reach age 117, like the UK's Ethel Caterham. Would I even want to go there?
My Dad died at age 81, Mom at 92. I'd simply prefer to drop dead one fine day, just like my late friend Dave, or perhaps simply die in my sleep, never to wake up. My older son Andrew has already gone before me. My younger son Jonathan, with whom I live now, is age 52 and needs to stay alive to be with me as long as I live.
