Sorry to have cut the last posting short, but it was not cooperating. Those darn blog gods and goddesses kept interfering.
Now, going forward, can anyone else from either political party displace Donald Trump in grabbing headlines? That would be a refreshing change, a great hope for the future of our country and also of the whole world. The man is almost 80 years old and may well have mental impairments clouding his judgment. He should retire now to the golf course and try to perfect his swing. High time for the emergence of some brand new and younger choices.
Wikipedia: Some psychiatrists and reporters have speculated that Trump may have mental health impairments, such as dementia (which runs in his family) or narcissistic personality disorder.
Mr. Trump has now said that he "probably" won't run for a 3rd term, but he hasn't ruled it out entirely. If he should run for an unprecedented 3rd term (only FDR did so succcessfully), and if Americans should actually vote for Trump and if he wins re-election, then the voters will deserve the unfortunate consequences. I don't care to live to see that day.
(AP) — When the coronavirus surged during President Donald Trump’s first term, he called for a simple fix: Limit the amount of testing so the deadly outbreak looked less severe. When he lost the 2020 election, he had a ready-made reason: The vote count was fraudulent.
...When the July jobs report revisions showed a distressed economy, Donald Trump had an answer: He fired the official in charge of the data and called the report of a sharp slowdown in hiring “phony.”
Trump has a go-to playbook if the numbers reveal uncomfortable realities, and that’s to discredit or conceal the figures and to attack the messenger.

Meanwhile, right here and now,
NBC, President Trump said he is doubling tariffs on India from 25% to 50%.
Trump is also doubling down on deportations.
Daily Beast, Green card applicants seeking legal residency through a spouse now face possible deportation as President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown deepens. A new Trump administration policy allows federal immigration authorities to initiate removal proceedings for immigrants without legal status who seek lawful permanent residency through a spouse or other family members.
In other news:
Now 80 years on: Wikipedia: The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in a combined estimated death toll of between 150,000 and 246,000 people by the end of 1945. The vast majority of these casualties were civilians
I never have supported the dropping of atomic bombs on populated cities in Japan, though I might possibly have supported dropping them first on unpopulated areas as a warning signal. Instead, President Truman authorized the atomic bombing of 2 major Japanese cities. Thus, Harry Truman was not a US president whom I could ever vote for, and I never did, considering him to be a war criminal. It is amazing that some people who survived the bombing are still alive today. Kudos to them.
The corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanum) typically blooms first after 7-10 years, then blooms more frequently, every 2-5 years after that. The bloom itself lasts for only 24-48 hours. The flower is large, shooting up to 12 feet tall.
