Trump tells Norway that he is now getting even

This past Sunday, January 18, we went out quite early, finding lakes and ponds all coated with ice and light snow resting on top. The outdoor temperature gauge downtown showed 32* F. '

Then on Monday, Janurary19, ML King Day, banks were closed for the national holiday, but everything else was still open.

And by Monday, ice and snow on bodies of water had melted somewhat, and now were gone from the roadside. The outdoor temperature still hovered in the 30's. But in the sun, it did not seem so very cold for my son out in shirtsleeves. Is it really winter yet or is this global warming?

A month after Trump had scrapped free national parks entry on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, California Gov. Gavin Newsom responded by opening more than 200 state parks for free to honor Dr. King.

Trump's own bithday, June 14, he has now declared will be a free day at the parks.

So Donald Trump has not been sleeping as much these days and when he is awake, he has been shifting into high gear..

In a text to Norway's leader, Trump suggested his hostile campaign to seize Greenland was due to the country's decision "not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize."

Nor was he satisfied when the actual winner offered him her prize. Isn't it enough that Trump is the US president, actually elected by a (slim) majority this time? But his citizen support seems to be waning and he has increasingly become an object of ridicule because of his own actions, including passing hisemlf off as our nation's own king.

Here's what Google has to say. The phrase "Trump as king" refers to Donald Trump's self-proclaimed regal imagery, particularly after halting NYC's congestion pricing by declaring "Long Live the King," sparking both support from his base and backlash over constitutional principles. This taps into a broader theme of his perceived desire for absolute executive power, often using monarchical language, which critics argue challenges American democratic norms of limited government and separation of powers, contrasting with the Founders' rejection of monarchy.

Back now to Washington, DC:

Massive birthday card replica from Trump to Epstein appears on the National Mall

After his frequent daytime slumbers, Trump is now wide awake now and is really fuming. Being president has not given him the prestige and admiration he seems to so constantly crave. He wants to be heralded as a king, not just a president. An now Denmark is getting payback for giving a Nobel to a Venezuelan democracy activist instead of to him. Nor has the Nobel committee permitted her to pass on her prize to him.

In a text to Norway's leader, Trump admitted that his hostile campaign to seize Greenland was due to the country's decision "not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize."

Donald Trump has likened himself to a king, not just of the US but of the whole world.
Norway failed to recognize that by giving the Nobel to someone else..

So now Trump wants to seize Greenland from Norway to get even for the Nobel snub..

Danish soldiers have arrived to protect Greenland from Donald Trump.

Danish soldiers plant their flag and take photos in Greenland.
Denmark's military is part of NATO.

Do Trunp's moves on Greenland mean the end of NATO?

The Cuban government is definitely in big trouble now without support from Venezuela. Will Putin stepin now to help save what's left of the Castro regime or does he no longer care?

I tried several times to post a photo of

Renee Goode, age 37, together with her brother before ICE killed her, but it kept messing up my entire blog--something very strange that kept on happening even with a fresh start on a brand new blog page. I tried and failed several times, so you simply won't be seeing that photo here. .

Google says: "Catalan is an official language in the parts of Spain where it is spoken. It belongs to the Indo-European language family. The language is used as a first language by all in the ethnic community and is used as a language of instruction in education."

Last time on this blog, I commented on the Catalan language spoken in a far northern corner of Spain,  used as the languag of school instruction there among other valiant efforts to preserve it. However, I suspect that Catalan will die out as a spoken language, just as Latin and certain indigenous languages here in the US have already vanished, despite determined efforts to preserve and pass them on. Catalonia tried and failed to become an independant nation and is now trying to hang onto its separate identity.via using its own language. Readers still alive in 50 years (not me) might want to check back to see what the status of the Catalan language is by then. I predict that it's use will have diminshed even further.

My Costa Rican visitor  Alex became such a dear friend. He stayed at my DC home one summer a few years ago. We had a lot of fun together. He was trying to learn English, so we only spoke English, which was a little hard for me, especially when tackling complicated subjects. I had often been tempted to launch into Spanish, but I bit my tongue and never did so.

His girlfriend visited us then. On seeing him once again, she declared him insufficiently handsome to become the father of her future children (she was not especially beautiful, in my opinion), So then they broke up and he is really better off now without her. People having children shouldn't be concerned about a future offspring's good looks (culturally determined and variable anyway), but about producing a healthy, normal child. It's hard to tell with a newborn just how they will look as an adult. Alex is no longer in touch with her anymore, so doesn't know if she has had any children yet. .

Some old friends living elsewhere, for whom I have no phone numbers or postal addresses, are simply not answering emails. Does that mean they have died or what? Unless they contact me, I will never really know.

Let's close now with this image of 2 bald men fighting over a comb.

Argentine philosopher and writer Jorge Luis Borges famously wisecracked that the fight over the Malvinas, or Faukland Islands as they are called by the UK, was like, “two bald men fighting over a comb.” When that war ended, the islands stayed under British control. Fewer than 3,000 people are there right now, mostly UK citizens living very far from home, most of them involved in fishing..If you really want to "get away from it all," the Fauklands might be the place to go.
