Israeli authorities continue to ignore human rights appeals.
Urgent update from Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) - Abu Safiya reports continued beatings, threats in Israeli detention.
*Kamal Adwan Hospital's director says prison guards continue to beat Safiya, including on sensitive areas of his body, deliberately deprive him of sleep, and have warned him not to disclose his detention conditions to his lawyer. The Israel Prison Service continues to delay access for an independent physician despite Safiya's recent transfer to a prison medical facility.*
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who was captured by the Israeli military in Gaza in late 2024 and is still being held in detention, appeared via video-link at an Israeli Supreme Court hearing in Jerusalem on June 10, 2026
Israeli authorities continue to act with impunity in this case here above and in so many others, as Donald Trump keeps on supporting Israel and sending money there. Let's not forget that it was Netanyahu who had first urged an increasingly mentally befuddled Trump to just start the Iran war for no evident reason. Then Trump actually did so and now doesn't seem to know how to end it. ============================================
The photo below sent without explanation, apparently is a deportation flight to Haiti from the US being unloaded there. All over Latin America, including in Haiti and the DR, old American school buses are used for transportation. So the deportees are getting off the plane onto the school bus to go into town, probably quite a dangerous place for them to be.
Violent gangs have been terrorizing Haitian neighborhoods where folks being deported by President Trump are now arriving. Donald Trump may not be fully aware that Haiti is a really dangerous place to be sending deportees. Mr. Trump is thus violating international law, which requires him to stop sending people in those circumstances, but maybe he really doesn't care.
Here is a photo of a chemical bomb reportedly dropped by the US, exploding in Sudan, a country where I once had a special mission some years ago. I am getting confused now about who is doing what to whom and why.

Also in Lyon, you might want to visit the Notre-Dame Basilica built in 1872, still quite majestic. Yes, I have actually been to this cathedral. 
Because my passport has expired, I won't be traveling there to see it again for myself, only seeing it "virtually" here right now.

Going even further back in time, also in France, here below we see King Louis XIV, shown astride his favorite horse, then below that, wearing a wig, quite common for men in his day. He died in 1715.
The Library of Congress in Washington, DC, recently hosted an exhibit about him and his life, which now is moving on to NYC.
Google says. King Louis XIV of France was also known as the "Sun King" for ruling with absolute power for 72 years, the longest recorded reign of any European monarch.

My good friend and former neighbor, Robert Krughoff, founder of Consumer's Checkbook,
died in 2023. Quite a complicated story might be told about his connection to my family and about his rather unusual death, but I won't say any more now. His work goes on.
September 4 was my older son Andrew's birthday.

Because I am now helping a young Nicaraguan family, I've started remembering Mother Teresa. I had met her with some of her nuns, back when I was in Nicaragua as an election observer in 1990. That was when Violeta Chamorro was elected president.
Mother Teresa died in 1997. I do recall that she and her nuns spoke English, not Spanish, and just did whatever was needed, mostly working in health and child care.
As readers already know, I was with Violeta at her home in 1990 when former President Jimmy Carter strode in to congratulate her on her election victory. She died last year in Costa Rica at age 95. And, as I've said before, Daniel Ortega has methodically worked his way back into the Nicaraguan presidency and has now declared himself and his wife to be co-presidents for life, with no need for any more elections.
