No kings, no dictators, no tyrants, no despots

This wooded area is where we often take the dog out for her morning run.

Donald Trump had declared a national emergency to allow him to control domestic demonstrations against him using the National Guard. He's said he plans to use the Guard to attack San Francisco next.

Quite evidently, a large number of Americans no longer support Mr. Trump, although he insists it is just a small minority of left-wing agitators allied with Democrats, so now he needs the National Guard to enforce his orders inside the country. That is much like what any dictator would say and is why Trump has now appealed on an emergeny basis to the Supreme Court for permisson to use the Guard to enforce his orders domestically after initially being blocked by lower courts.
His efforts since then have aroused even greater backlash in every single state in the nation. Trump's crude attempts to quell these demonstrations have completely backfired--stirring up a vertible hornets' nest.
Unfortunately for Trump himself and for everyone else, he is starting to manifest his family history of dementia. Our country and the world cannot really afford to wait for 3 more years before he actually leaves office.

Mr. Trump's approval rating from constituents and would-be voters has hit an historic low compared to other recent presidents. He had even been impeached twice during his last term in office. No impeachments of Trump and other former presidents have ever actually succeeded.

The word "trump" usually means to beat someone at a card game. It also once referred to using a trumpet to announce local news and events.

Donald Trump has now claimed that he just invented a brand new word: "equalizing," a word in fact that has been in use for at least 500 years.

Many "No Kings" protests against Donald Trump took place across the nation on Oct. 18.

'No Kings' protesters emerge en masse for anti-Trump rallies

USA Today, 'No Kings' rallies from coast-to-coast

An estimated 2,700 protests were carried out in cities and towns in all 50 states, including right here in Berkeley Springs, W. Va.  A friend from the DC area even came here to participate after finding it too crowded to do so back at home. A total of 7 million people were estimated to have joined the protests,

Protesters railed against "chaos, corruption, cruelty" and more specifically against ICE raids, troop deployment within the country, and reduced health care subsidies. Here were the demonstrators in Times Square, New York City.

Another huge anti-Trump crowd had gathered in Chicago.

And there were even more anti-Trump demonstrations all over the country.

Here above were No Kings protesters in our small town of Berkeley Springs, W Va.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump had decided to go back to Palm Beach, ignoring the rallies. He called the  protesters “whacked out.” Mr.Trump then went out golfing on Saturday morning. His weekend there had already begun earlier with a reported $1 million a plate dinner on Friday at his Mar-a-Lago club and residence, where he had raked-in a few additonal millions. (For someone already a millionaire, more millions are always nice, but hardly a game-changer.)

Below is an image Trump posted of himself wearing a crown and flying a plane while bombarding his enemies with a brown liquid. Exactly what his message was trying to convey remains unclear.

Is our country now entering a period of widespread "soft secession"?

https://medium.com/@carmitage/its-time-for-americans-to-start-talking-about-soft-secession-8d0183ac94cf

Soft secession is a political and legal theory in the politics of the United States describing a state's gradual withdrawal from cooperation with the US federal government. This approach effectively withdraws from federal cooperation without formally declaring independence.

A CNBC poll, conducted between October 8-12, shows that Trump’s approval rating on the economy stood at 42 percent, with 55 percent disapproving.

The -13 net approval on the economy is the lowest of any CNBC survey on that topic during either of Trump’s two terms.

Poll: Donald Trump approval rating hits new low for second term

Trump showed 37% overall approval in this particular poll. Will it go even lower?

What is Trump’s approval rating? What polls say 10 days into the government shutdown

Trump's approval rating has often fluctuated and also depends on the issues and who is conducting the poll, but has still remained consistently underwater. It has gone as low as 34% this year.

Newsweek, President Donald Trump's approval: Just 34 percent of Americans approve of his handling of inflation and the cost of living, while 62 percent disapprove — the worst showing in three CNBC polls conducted during his second term. Only 41 percent approve of his new tariff policies, compared with 56 percent who disapprove, a net rating of –15 points, down from –6 in the previous quarter.

Public sentiment toward the broader economy has also soured. Just 27 percent of respondents describe the economy as “good” or “excellent,” while 72 percent call it “fair” or “poor.” Expectations for the next year have weakened as well: only 32 percent believe conditions will improve in 2026, down from 37 percent last quarter, and 46 percent think things will get worse.

Trump ends aid to Colombia and calls country's leader a 'drug leader'

Trump authorized air strikes on central Gaza after he said Gaza had violated the truce agreement.  What more can Gazans possibly endure and still live to see another day?

And what can be done now about Donald Trump's often thoughtless, illegal, cruel, and unwarrented behavior here and abroad? He is on a warpath, but its unclear exactly why. The "No Kings" marches in all 50 states (including right here in his stronghold of West Va.,  even in little Berkeley Springs) show that he has already lost considerable US citizen support. Yet Mr. Trump still has 3 more years left in office. So what can possibly be done to control him, starting out even today? His impulsive decisions and unpredicable actions across the world have created a real emergency--causing unnecessary bloodshed, serious suffering, and too many deaths. Trump's long family history of dementia is clearly manifested now,  being writ large, thus endangering our whole country and even the entire world.
Trump must be stopped from authorizing the killing of innocent people just on a whim. He needs to be stopped from issuing erratic, harmful, and fatal orders without justification. He just needs to be stopped on so many fronts. Exactly how to do that is a major challenge for our country and for the world. Republicans in Congress will try to block any efforts to control Mr. Trump, while privately expressing  concerns about his increasingly erratic and counter-productive behavior.

Greta Thunberg Said Guards Took Selfies With Her After She Was Forced To Undress As She Detailed The Abuse She Allegedly Endured In An Israeli Prison

Since arriving back home in Sweden, Greta has been talking more freely, providing additional details about what happened to her in Israeli custody. Her testimony actually seems to ring true, appearing too extreme to have been totally fabricated.

In bitter long-running conflicts, such as Israel/Palestine, it may be tempting to completely villify the other side and to punish them, but then how to tell who is villifying whom? Yes, there was rightful sympathy for Jews after the horrors of the holocaust and for Israelis immediately after the surprise attack 2 years ago, but now some Israeli operatives may be tempted to mete out "payback" by torturing Palestinian supporters like Greta; I really don't know, but I do tend to believe what she has said. The fact that her testimony has come out so slowly, bit by bit, indicates how hard it has been for her to even talk about the abuse she endured, making it that much more credible. I don't think all that was just made up. If she had actually been treated well, she not would be inclined now to spin such a horror story.

Greta reports that her captors used some Swedish words simply to taunt her. She said she was forced to kiss the Israeli flag. Water was withheld, with water bottles kept just out-of-reach. Israel has characterized her accuations as "shameless and complete lies." It will take her some time to recover from her ordeal, if ever.

Greta has also now accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza

A neighbor living near my former home on DC's Capitol Hill has sent me a photo of a tasty dish that she would gladly share with me if I were still living there. She is a really fantastic and versatile cook. Yes, I do miss her and all my former DC neighbors. (No neighbors live near our present home.)

She also sent this photo of my former DC house, barely visible from across the street because of trees.

I really wish I could still do on-site Spanish interpreting, like this short job below coming up in Sterling. There are very few Spanish speakers out here where I'm living now in West Virginia. (My son, born in Colombia, tried to learn Spanish, but really never mastered it. )

Hi, this is Ian Alex with LLS. Are you available for the following job?

-Job# 1658278 on 10/27/25 4:00 PM for 1 hour in Sterling, VA 20166

Someone is offering free kittens here locally, imagine that, free kittens! What a bargain! They actually look quite cute, but I'm not sure our dog would welcome another pet, so, no thanks folks.  (I also have a serious cat allergy.) Best of luck finding them all good homes.

There are lots of free grown-up cats as well.

Some years ago, I bred my purebred female black lab with a similar male and gave away most of the 8  silky black puppies. My son Jonathan had wanted to keep one of the males that he had named King Chubby, but with 4 kids already as a single mother, having even one dog was more than enough. After that, our dog was spayed.
