Trump is now calling the shots on Cuba.

Donald Trump, with his very brief attention span, is probably an elder with ADHD. Forget Greenland now, as he has pivoted to Cuba. Can you imagine working for Trump? Just be ready to turn on a dime, trying to follow contradictory, changing, or confusing orders!

I've been hearing from friends back in DC, so many thanks for that. As I told one former neighbor: "I hope to live to see the day when Trump retires, but now he's talking about running for vp next time. I pity whoever might be his running mate at the top of the ticket!"

Trmp suggests Marco Rubio could soon get another job — president of Cuba | New York Post https://nypost.com/2026/01/11/us-news/trump-suggests-marco-rubio-could-soon-get-another-job-president-of-cuba/

Newsweek, Donald Trump on Marco Rubio as Cuba’s President: ‘Sounds Good to Me!’Rubio, though US-born, speaks quite credible Spanish, as I've reported here myself, after once chatting with him in both Spanish and English on a flight between south Florida and Washington, DC. Marco Rubio's name might not be familiar to Cubans on the island and if they will actually be voting for a new president, they might prefer to pick the candidates themselves, rather than having Trump name Rubio who has never even been to the island. Since Cuba is emerging now from a dictatorship, how about letting Cubans decide what to do next?
  • Reuters:. Cuba has the right to import fuel from any suppliers, foreign minister says.
  • Venezuela was Cuba's largest supplier last year with some 26,500 barrels per day of crude and fuel. Mexico is emerging as alternative oil supplier to the island.
  • Cuban president says Cuba prepared to "defend homeland to last drop of blood."

Here now is a message on Cuba from Donald Trump.

What sort of "deal" does Trump want Cuba to make?

Donald Trump has soundly rejected an independent Federal Reserve, ordering Fed Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates right now! After Powell's refusal, Trump launched a probe into anything he could possibly pin on Powell. The result was damaging to US national finances and world standing and also to Trump's own reputation. But Powell's professional standing soared as American citizens and foreign observers alike lauded his independence and his wise professional moves.

The 2 Republicans are Sen Thom Tillis (NC) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alasaka). who said they will block all Trump nominees for now.
Unqualified Trump appointee Pete Hegseth, a very likely war criminal over his order to kill unarmed boaters who had already surrendered (blaming the "fog of war" for his mistake), now actually has the gall to censure Kelly, a true war hero. Do we have to put up with 3 more years of having incompetents like Hegseth giving orders and drawing a hefty salary at taxpayer expense? With Trump still in the presidency, that sort of thing is likely to continue.

Trump blasts civil rights protections and says it resulted in white people being treated ‘very badly

God forbid if Donald Trump decides to run as VP along with a winning Republican presidential candidate, who could hardly keep him off the ticket or keep him from interfering later. Trump would certaimly have no compunctions about going over the head of the actual president.

Wash. Post, The growing list of probes into officials Trump has criticized

Trump doesn't want any "checks and balances" designed to curb his directives. So he doesn't support "balance of powers," but rather wants full dictatorial powers. He rejects any checks whatsoever on himself.  This objective has not chnaged since he took office over a year ago.

Polling from Gallup shows that young Americans, most of all, are increasingly identifying as political independents, rejecting the labels of the two major political parties.

Pope Leo also has had a few things to say.

The pontiff has increasingly asserted himself in the face of Trump's aggressive words and deeds.

Although the pope is American, he does not necessarily see eye-to-eye with the US president.

Time, Pope Leo Condemns ‘Diplomacy Based on Force’ as Trump Threatens Further Military Actions

Military actions are taking place not only abroad but against American citizens living within this country, something largely unprecedented here, but characteristic of dictatorhips.

Kristi Noem vows to send ‘hundreds’ more agents to Minneapolis as protests erupt across US

While Donald Trump has been busy making plans for Venezuela, Cuba, and a Danish island, he has not been focused on what's happening right here in the USA, where citizens are increasingly turning against him. Now the US military is not being used just to protect us from outside forces, but to protect the US president and his entourage from citizen anger, something dictators usually do.

A long commentary on that subject was just received:

Megalomaniac?

Dictionary definitions describe a person like this as obsessed with their
own power and having a delusion that their power is greater than it is. It
is a species of insanity. In public discourse, the term was regularly
applied when I was young to the Soviet dictator Josef Stalin and similar
figures.

You know where I am going with this. Any President of the United States is
fairly described as the most powerful person, let alone political leader,
in the world. But what are we to make of a President who, when asked if
there are any limits on his power, says that the only limits are his own
morality–about which any number of questions have been raised–or the
workings of his mind, which has a record of tending toward the gilded and
grandiose, whether in escalators, buildings or Governmental undertakings,
either foreign or domestic?

The 25th Amendment comes to mind. Except that the person next in line, as
well as those following him, have a track record of indulging our
Megalomaniac-in-Chief’s excesses. Along with a similarly indulgent Supreme
Court majority, they surely are enablers of his psychopathology rather than
people we might look to for a better, less lunatic, future. It seems we
are stuck with a Nutcase in indeed the most power-laden job in the world, a
man at the same time so afflicted with Megalomania as to threaten to shred
what we have left of a democratic Constitutional order.

Now comments on just 2 more things.

There is a WalMart in Martinsburg, only a few miles from us here in Berkeley Springs, which may be using some drone deliveries to reducc the trek by truckers. Whether local customers could get drone deliveries right to their doorstep, however, might prove rather problematic, as many folks like us live out in the country with rural addresses that may be hard for a drone to find.

Sex scenes in films and TV involving 2 women are not uncommon, as in this current movie trailer that popped up just when I logged onto the computer. But how often do we see scenes of 2 naked men kissing? I don't recall ever seeing that. Of course, they would be found on gay porn sites. Probably the image of 2 naked women kissing is designed to mostly appeal to straight men. If so, I'm not sure of the psychology involved there. (Reader comments are most welcome.)
