No Mexico celebrations this year in Chicago

Chicago's annual parade to celebrate Sept. 16, Mexico's independence day, is being postponed--perhaps until Donald Trump is gone from office. He wants to target Chicago in his next immigration crackdown. Is this really what most Trump voters wanted? Washington, DC. is now almost at a standstill, thanks to all the national guard troops stationed there. Was Trump elected to become our nation's first dictator? No more celebratory summer gatherings where Trump's agents may decide to arrest and even deport some festival participants.
If we really didn't need all these folks, they wouldn't even be here now, but our country simply doesn't have enough workers, that's just a fact. Almost nobody is available these days to pick crops, to clean hotel rooms, to help care for elders like me.

  • 75% of employers are not able to fill job vacancies according to surveys.
Even here in little Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, I see "now hiring" and "help wanted" ads posted everywhere.

My late former husband to whom I was married for 24 years was of Korean descent. My last name
"Joe" was the spelling his father chose after coming here from Seoul.

‘El Grito Chicago,’ other events postponed due to potential ICE activity, National Guard deployment

With the National Guard invading their city, residents have not felt much like celebrating this year. Here then are images of previous Chicago festivities, featuring mostly immigrants from Mexico, who are keeping a pretty low profile, avoiding celebrations for now.

Here above are more images of Chicago, including some from previous                                                  summer festivities.

When my parents lived in the city, I often visited there.
Below is a house built in 1860 that escape the Chicago fire, which my Dad
renovated on the near east side of the city. It's still there, but no longer
belongs to our family, a really wonderful house.

From Google:  Leonard and Virginia Currie moved to Chicago in 1962, where Leonard was the founding dean of the College of Architecture and Art at the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle (UIC). A year or two later, the Curries purchased a spacious house in need of repair near the new Circle campus. The Curries’ rehabilitation of the 1860s house helped spark the renovation of Chicago’s Little Italy.

Mr.Trump is openly campaigning for the Nobel. Netanyahu has nomintaed him (birds of a feature).
Trump, in turn, has called Netanyahu a "war hero."

NY Times, President Says 2026 G20 to Be Held at His Florida Club

This event is anticipated to bring even more money and glory to the president. He has not been shy about
tooting his own horn as the greatest president ever since Abraham Lincoln nor has he avoided bragging
about his finances. "I'm rich!" he has boasted.

Unless those making the wager are still quite young, they might not live long enough to see someone
actually live to age 150. So how will they collect on their bet? Might their descendants be able to do so?

I'm constantly being bombarded with ads for "assisted living." Can anyone still be found to "assist" older folks, since most of those doing that work are being deported, along with construction workers, as well as farm workers picking our crops and milking the cows? We really do need all those folks to stay working right here and they still need our jobs, but Trump and his agents are deporting them as fast as possible.

  • 75% of employers are not able to fill job vacancies. (Donald Trump, are you listening?)
At age 87, regarding the ads promoting assisted living, I'd rather stay just where I am now, living with my son assisting me as needed. I'd adopted him from Colombia when he was about a year old, which has proved to be a good investment.

More Berkeley Springs, WV Demographics:

What is the current population of Berkeley Springs?

Google says there are 11,929 folks living in Berkeley Springs, with a median age of 49. That means that half of local residents are over age 49. No wonder so many folks I see coming in and out of stores here have gray or white hair! Of that total, 49.01% are male and 50.99% are female.
US-born citizens make up 97.35% of the resident pool in Berkeley Springs, while non-US-born citizens account for 1.85%. My son born in Colombia is part of that 1.85%.
He is 51, so is close to the local median age. I am among those whose age is well above the median.
