Wanton cruelty, deliberate harm, just plain stupdity

Being intentionally cruel and mean, willfully causing pain and suffering for other human beings, seems to be the Trump administration's modus operandi. If any action or policy is expected to upset or to physically harm or even kill people, Trump and his appointees seem to be all for it--whether sinking innocent Venezuelan fishing boats or deliberately separating immigrant families and children. A minority of American voters do support this wanton cruelty, but a growing number like me are definitely opposed.

We must remember that although he came fairly close in the last in election, in fact Donald Trump has never actually received majority support from American voters. Yet he still acts like king of the world, as mentioned in the previous posting.

What can we do for the next 3 years to ameliorate US government policies aimed at deliberately harming other people and other nations? Of course, Trump and his minions would argue that their actions and policies are beneficial for at least some Trump voters, as well as for Mr. Trump himself. But Trump has never been supported by a majority of American voters and his approval rating just keeps on sinking. Does he even care? He probably dismisses such reports anyway as "fake news." Does he actully know what's being done in his name? Is he still mentally competent? His family apparently has a history of dementia.

The nation of Israel was establiished with considerable American moral support and very generous financing as a haven for Jews seeking protection from Nazi oppression and certain death in the gas chambers. Jews were one of the ethnic groups deemed most harmful by the Nazis, who were aiming to protect Germany's ethnic purity. At that time, many Jews fled to Israel and some also came to the US to survive the Nazis. I met some of them.in the 1940s with my parents as a child.
I also met the famed German architect Walter Gropius, who was not Jewish but still fled the Nazis because of their oppressive policies. His house, now a museum open to the public, was built in 1938, the year I was born.

This is the Gropius house in Lincoln, Mass. that I visited several times with my parents as a child. My parents had a close friendship with owners Walter and Ise Gropius.

(Bloomberg) — President Donald Trump said US broadcast networks should face scrutiny over their licenses if they're too critical of him, which he considers to be taking free speech too far.

Wash. Post, Growing number of Americans say U.S. supports Israel too much in Gaza war, poll shows

That was my own opinion from the very start, as I've never supported the creation of a Jewish state or of any nation based on a specific ethnicity or religion. I also must acknowledge that a number of such nations already exist, but the world certainly doesn't need to have any more; Wikipedia describes them as examples of Ethnic nationalism.

Wash. Post, For the first time, Bernie Sanders calls Israel’s war in Gaza a genocide

Sanders did not directly say that Israel was committing genocide, but rather that he agreed with the findings of a UN panel accusing Israel of doing exactly that. Politicians have to be very careful about what to say aloud, as any verbal snippet can extracted, then start being broadcast over and over again.

According to Google: Bernie Sanders is an ethnic Jew, but he is not outwardly religious.
His heritage is Polish-Jewish, and he was raised in a secular Jewish household.

US once again vetoes Security Council resolution demanding immediate Gaza ceasefire,

hostage release

Perhaps for his own protection, Netanyhau seems to want to prolong the war and Trump is obediently
doing his bidding.

According to Google:
Polls from mid-2025 indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's domestic support
remains relatively low, despite a temporary boost from the conflict with Iran. In the U.S., his
approval has reached a record low, driven by falling support among Democrats and independents.
More now regarding Israeli public opinion, Trust in Netanyahu remains low: In a poll conducted
by the Israel Democracy Institute in early July 2025, less than half of the Israeli public said they
trusted Netanyahu.
Yet Trump is still fully supporting Netanyahu 100%, and is continuing to send lots of our tax dollars
his way. Does the Iraeli prime minister know something the Donald doesn't want revealed? Why is Trump
still supporting him so lavishly?
