Before getting into American politics and the current state of the world, I'd like to make an appeal now on behalf of a worthy Nicaraguan family. Here now are the basic details.
In his messages to me, my Nicaraguan friend Edward, father of an 11-year-old son with Type 1 diabetes signs off as EDWARD LEE SCHOURES AGUIRRE, the full name he uses.
In Spanish-speaking families, a main last name--in this case, Schoures--may be followed by the mother's maiden last name, which here is Aguirre.
Edward now tells us how to send him money on PayPal if we should want to help his son with Type 1 childhood-onset diabetes, as it is very hard there to get the necessary medications and they must be paid only in US dollars. So if any blog reader is able to send him any money at all, it would really be greatly appreciated and go to a very worthwhile cause that I can fully vouch for, after decades of knowing this family.
I will be sending Edward some money myself, though now that I am retired, my income is quite limited. I also have a very needy extended family right here in this country, and many worthy and worthwhile friends all over the world, including back in Honduras. And since I am retired now at age 88, my income is quite limited, but I will still send Edward whatever I can.
Part of Edward's recent message, shown here below, refers to a conveyance that his late father Larry made out of old bicycle parts, dubbed a Maggy Buggy. Edward has no photos now of that simple homemade vehicle, which I actually rode in myself back in 1990, while I was visiting Edward's family, propelling it myself by pumping with my legs. Edward was just a small boy then. At the time, I had been there as an election observer along with Jimmy Carter, back when Violeta Chamorro actually won the country's presidency in a really big upset. (A photo of me then with Carter appears in my Honduras book,) But, as I've already said, Ortega then had methodically worked his way back into power and now with his wife as co-president, he has declared himself to be president-for-life, with no need for any more elections. At age 80, the same age now as Donald Trump, Daniel Ortega probably still has a few more years left to go, and then his younger wife and co-president will take over when he dies.
If anyone can now spare a few dollars for Edwards' family, the money should be sent to his cousin Marlon Aguirre via Paypal to the address shown below in blue. Even $5 or $10 would be very helpful and would go quite a long way there in Nicaragua.

Yes, Donald Trump and his supporters are "the enemy within" for all the rest of us Americans.
There are many other enemies within, such murder-for-hire plotters who had stalked 23-year-old Jonah Mutua and killed him in March. Montgomery County Police detectives arrested 23-year-old Bekine Tibebu Ayele of Burtonsville in connection with the March 2025 homicide of Jonah Kimindu Mutua of Silver Spring, as one of the men involved in the plot. The long arm of the law keeps reaching out and may even take years to find guilty parties.
Donald Trump was only found guilty of "defamation," although he had actually committed rape, because that was the verdict of a jury, So he is just a common criminal who got off easy, many years after his crime, but at least his victim, E. Jean Carroll, finally got financial compensation from him. Why so many people voted for him as our president is still quite a mystery.
Now we'll have to see what happens in this recent Montgomery County murder-for-hire case.
