Missing old friends and neighbors, making a new life here in West Va.

A friend who has moved with his family to Mexico writes:

We are living in Mexico now at least for the year. I hope it’s permanent. Unfortunately the United States is not a happy place. We had to see the doctor in DC on Capitol Hill which reminded me of what it was like when I first moved there in the '80s. So many businesses on Pennsylvania Avenue have closed. It looks somewhat depressing. The extreme right has taken over on Massachusetts Avenue as you know; it is now doing the same on Pennsylvania Avenue between the 200 and 300 blocks. It looks like they're trying to form a circle around the capital building.

Yes, my old friend and his family are now living in Mexico. I would not mind living in Mexico myself right now or even in Honduras. The cost of living would be much lower and I would be far away from US politics. But now I'm buying a house in W Va. and living here with my son, a Trump supporter, though we never talk politics. I probably need to stay here now, as my son is helping support 2 sons by 2 different marriages, so he could not manage the new house expenses without me. Maybe it's just my wishful thinking, but it does seem that he and others around here may be starting to cool on Mr. Trump, whom they all voted for, but something we never talk about.

Another friend living in Vermont has asked me if there are any books I want to read now that I'm no longer working.

"Yes, Carol, I have plenty of books here that I might want to read, but everyday life takes me so long now that I hardly have time to finish reading a whole book--I read magazines instead, like National Geographic. And I even used to write books!"

I added to my message to her:

"Daily self-care takes quite a bit of time now, like taking a shower (not daily, makes my skin too dry), sometimes washing my hair, just getting dressed, brushing my hair and teeth, fixing and eating breakfast, walking outside briefly around the house to take the dog out, so by then it's already almost noon and what has been accomplished? Well, I'm still alive and breathing. I do take time to answer email and post on my blog. I've wrttien 2 books, as you know, and I have a fiction book called Cyber Song whirling around in my head, while I often contemplate different endings, but I probably won't ever actually write anything down. Please do keep in touch."

In a message to a former neighbor, I said:

"You and other folks have asked me to remind them, so I may do that periodically, though not every time the blog is posted...

It's very good to hear from you and I wish I were still your neighbor. My DC house was great for raising a family (when I was still with my late ex-husband or still working myself to cover the costs). But living alone in the DC house now and no longer working, while continuing to help out my kids/grandkids and other folks in Honduras and Mexico, I could no longer afford the taxes, upkeep, and repairs on a 3-story DC house built in 1895. Now the realtor tells me a couple has bought my former house there, so I hope they will be good neighbors. I do miss you all!
Thanks for writing."

(A question now: Why has the font size in my messages and headilines shown above and below varied somewhat? I did nothing to cause that--just was an independent decision of the blog gods.)

Trump’s plan for White House ballroom sparks outrage

Trump claims: "There’s never been a president that was good at ballrooms. I’m really good.”

He seems to try to be distracting from the Epstein files.
Trump also berated Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates right away.

The Trump administration takes a very Orwellian turn

CNN Those concerns were certainly bolstered this week. We learned that some historical information that recently vanished from the Smithsonian just so happens to have been objective history that Trump really dislikes: a reference to his two impeachments.
After a reference to Trump's impeachments is removed from a history museum, complex questions echo.

[Why now the red item seen here on the right? I don't know why it has

suddenly appeared or whether it will continue. Let's see.]

CNBC, Trump tariffs inject more uncertainty into global economy

Higher prices, fewer choices are now being predicted. Trump just should leave the US
economy alone, as his thoughtless tinkering only makes matter worse. He doesn't like
to listen to advice because he believes he always knows what's best. (Probably even
you or I could do better. )

Trump fired a labor official for a jobs' report he didn't like.

ApparentlyNetanyahu would like to have Israel take over Palestine. Such a move, if successful, might bolster his own chances to remain out of prison.

I'm having a lot of trouble here. This posting needs to be made right now before it gets even more problematic.
