Over and out

Goodbye 2025 and good riddance!

Looking outside the window this morning on this last day of the year, December 31, 2025, I see that the grass is still green, with some begiuning to take on a yellowish tinge. Our temperature here has barely dipped below freezing and no snow has fallen yet, as happened farther north. So is winte rreally here?

Now, at age 79, Donald Trump seems to keep falling asleep during meetings. Is he tired of being president? Is he tired of life?

It's really better for Trump to stay asleep, as when he is awake, his modus operandi increasingly seems to be mean and nasty, deliberately vindictive, simply trying to upset lots of other people, and just make life miserable for as many folks as possible. He certainly never wants to be known as Mr. Nice Guy. Maybe being deliberately cruel and getting away with it somehow is gratifying to his ego, making him feel really pretty powerful and important. No wonder his approval rating among voters is now in seriously negative territorty.

CNN says Donald Trump’s approval rating has swung from +6 in January to -12 in December. What a difference a year makes! Donald Trump won the presidency by a slim majority, but much of his support has now totally evaporated. Trump himself seems to have lost his zest for the job as well, often dozing off during the day and asking voters whether they think he should quit. At 79, he may not live many more years. After becoming the US president, what more does he aspire to? Of course, there's always that elusive Nobel Peace Prize. But Mr. Trump needs to cherish the Israel Prize that Netanyahu already offered him because he's not going to get the Nobel.

Netanyahu says Trump to become first non-Israeli to receive Israel Prize

Though not the Nobel, it is a prize.

(Many of us consider both Trump and Netanyahu to be war criminals.)

Trump Caught Moaning About His Saddest Moment of 2025

Donald Trump has kept on complaining loudly and often about not getting the Nobel Peace Prize. (He needs to stop moaning, as he's not going to get it.)

Trump is definitely a guy who must have missed some crucial caring during his early life, making him crave continuous praise and adulation as an adult. South Korea was wise to have offered him a golden crown, as per an earlier post.

The Hill, President Trump claimed Tuesday that his “real” approval rating is at 64 percent, despite polls showing it is below 50 percent.

“The polls are rigged even more than the writers,” Trump said in a late-night Truth Social post. “The real number is 64%, and why not, our Country is ‘hotter’ than ever before.”

Capitol riot 'does not happen' without Trump, Jack Smith told Congress

Do you still believe whatever Mr. Trump says and do you also believe that his health now
at age 79  is really "great"? Can we believe anything at all that Donald Trump says?
Rather, just take whatever he says and reverse it to get the truth about anything. His political support has fallen off, not only among voters, but among Congressional Republicans as well.

Can we actually expect Trump to live until the end of his term, some 3 years from now? That seems like a very long time, allowing him do still more damage to our counntry and to the world. He's a guy without any empathy for others, someone whose impact is mostly negative, a man who enjoys harming and upsetting other people. Maybe that shows his power, just like a king of old who might say, "Off with his head" and then the order would be swiftly carried out. Trump is now king of the world.

Though officially reported to be in excellent health, Donald Trump is also thought to have "cankles."

"Cankles" is a term used in online speculation regarding President Trump's health, specifically referring to his visibly swollen ankles and lower legs. The White House confirmed in July 2025 that the swelling is due to a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), which involves poor blood flow from the legs, but is usually not life-threatening.

Younger folks are already making headlines, not waiting for Donlad Trump to retire. Among them are California Governor Gavin Newsom, age 58, Vice President JD Vance, 41, and NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, 34. Former Vice President Kamala Harris is already 61, so needs to get going again if she is going to go anywhere.

                                                        Zohran Mamdani

Zohran Mamdani, age 34, the newly elected mayor of New York City, campaigned on an ambitious plan for universal, taxpayer-funded childcare for all children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. He recently got married, but has no children himself as yet. What other ambitions might he have? Having not been born in the US, he cannot run for president, but other offices are still open to him..

Google, that final authority, says: the U.S. Constitution requires the President to be a "natural-born citizen," meaning they must be born a U.S. citizen, generally interpreted as being born within U.S. territory or born abroad to U.S. citizen parents, along with being at least 35 years old and a 14-year resident of the U.S. This "natural-born" rule excludes naturalized citizens (like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Albert Einstein) and aims to ensure loyalty, but its precise definition (especially for those born abroad) has led to legal debate, though it hasn't been definitively settled by the Supreme Court.

Although Mamdani seems to be out of the presidental running, he could become New York state's next governor.

There are also other politicians with big asperations, now plotting their next moves.

At age 41, Vice President JD Vance, a Republican and a Catholic convert, is married to Usha, age 39, a Hindu, with whom he has 3 children. He now seems to have set his sights squarely on the US presidency. Though a Republican, would he actually be as cruel as Trump, or as indifferent to the human impact of his decisions? We do need a president who seeks the wellbeing of all citizens, even of opponents both here and all around the world.

Then there is Gavin Newsom, California's Democratic governor, age 58, who might also want to become president and has no time to waste.

Mamdani, Vance, and Newsom represent the next political generation. I don't know how Kamala Harris fits in here at age 61, but she needs to get out there right now to be in the running, as these guys have been grabbing all the headlines. Or has she decided that she doesn't want to be preident after all?

Childcare remains a major issue for American women, who no longer want to stay home with the kids, although paid childcare is usually performed by other women, Female caregivers are actually preferable, as having adult men caring for vulnerable unrelated small children often doesn't work out well, as was discussed earlier on this platform. It may be a matter of culture combined with testosterone. Women produce some testosterone, as well as the female hormone estrogen that may help counteract it. But men have so much more testosterone, perhaps as nature intended, incentivizing them to seek out mostly female sex partners to keep humankind always reproducing.

On these pages. I have already mentioned how putting lone men in charge of caring for young kids of either or both genders is not advisable, especially when they are not their own children. At least that has been my long experience as a mother, social worker, childcare licensing worker, and researcher on the subject. Women need to provide most paid care for small kids, perhaps together with some men serving with them as male role models.

New Mexico already offers free childcare, as do several European countries. Free childcare may help keep the birthrate from falling even further, but is unlikely to actually increase it.

Now that couples can largely control the number of children they might have, the average number of children per American family is about 1.6, the same as in North Korea, while South Korea has the world's lowest birthrate of .75, an average of less than one child per family. Niger has the world's highest birthrate of 6.7 children per family.

The average birthrate in south Sudan is almost 4 children per woman, with mothers there proudly showing off their kids to visitors like me.

While we are on the subject of South Sudan, here is some more news about that country. .

US judge blocks Trump plans to end deportation protections for South Sudanese migrants | Reuters https://www.reuters.com/world/us-judge-halts-end-deportation-protections-south-sudanese-migrants-2025-12-30/

Having traveled all over South Sudan myself, I know the many challenges its people face. Just daily living there is a struggle. However, children are also highly valued and women still consider raising them their primary duty.

I also would contend that anyone from South Sudan who has successfuly made the arduous and unlikely journy to the US should not be sent back home. We need to keep such capable and ambitious folks with us right here now. Deporting them back to South Sudan would be unwise, as we still need them here to help fill in our population gap, as they are of working age and we need workers, so just let them keep on sending money home to support their country and family there.

I've already made the case that screening immigrants is not simply do-able. We just have to take our chances, as always. And need I point out onec again that both our president and vice president have wives who are here thanks to folks who came as visitors? So maybe let's forget about immigrant visas and just have more visitors?

Daily Beast. Shamans Deliver Ominous 2026 Health Prediction for Trump

CONCERNING OMEN

“The United States should prepare itself,” the Peruvian shamans have warned. They predict that Presient Trump will face a serious health challenge in 2026. At Donald Trump's age now, 79 (80 in June), it would not be very surprising if he should fall ill. He already seems to have become rather tired of actually being president.

Honduras' presidential runner-up challenges loss as legal action looms | Reuters https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/honduras-presidential-runner-up-nasralla-challenges-loss-2025-12-30/

The Honduran presidential election is not over yet, after all.

Unfortunately, TPS or Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans ended on September 8, 2025 after lower court stays were overruled. So then unaccompanied minors were put on planes to return alone to an unfamiliar country.

The Trump administration has often acted in a deliberately ruthless and cruel manner, showing no compassion even for children. (The Statue of Liberty must now be shedding some copious tears.) Do most Americans really support such tactics?

We do still need Hondurans and many others to stay right here, but Donald Trump, whose own wife and other family members have come from abroad, all without proper visas, has fiercely protected his own, but not many others. It's not really a matter of the law, but
of who you know and who the president decides to favor.

It's been rather amazing to see how Israel's reputation on the world stage has plummeted, although Mr. Trump is still providing Israel with the newest US weapons and lots of  dollars, which many of us oppose. Netanyahu is his pal unfortunately. As I've said, they are birds of feather.

Israel is banning more than two dozen international humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Borders (or MSF), Oxfam, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, from operating in the Gaza Strip. I have often volunteered before with MSF.

I need to post this now, before it is 2026.

The gress is stiil green

The grass is still green here in Berkeley Springs and the pond at CoolFont is now free of ice. It really has not even been cold lately. NY City had snow, but we didn't get any here. The green and orange gargoyle is still up there right now, flapping its wings on top of the castle roof. My son has been wearing a long-sleeved shirt but no jacket. Guests are still occupying the cabins at CoolFont, with more arriving today for  New Year's Eve. The burned-down lodge has been totally rebuilt, with its grand opening not yet scheduled. Cold weather with ice and smow are predicted, maybe even coming here this evening.

Family members have just sent a photo of a gathering we had here at Christmas 7 years ago, back when I was still a youthful age 80. How fast those 7 years have flown by--the older we get, the faster time seems to speed along. It's almost tomorrow already.

People, Mom of 7 'Couldn't Believe' She Was Pregnant with Ultra-Rare Quadruplets, 3 of Whom Are Identical

A Texas mother, April Martinez, conceived quadruplets naturally and completely by surprise. She and her husband already had 3 children. (Since the birth, April has had a tubal ligation. Seven kids are quite enough.)

So this is why our flags here had been at flying half staff.                                                                      U.S. and Local Flags to Remain at Half-Staff through last Friday in Honor of Former NC Governor Jim Hunt   Funeral services were held on December 26

Google says: Many Kennedy Center performances have been canceled, largely due to protests and controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's takeover and renaming of the venue (the "Trump Kennedy Center") in late 2025.

If Ashlee Buzzard had found caring for her 9-year-old daughter too burdensome, she might have asked to have the child placed in foster care to give her a break or even to be adopted, which would then rid her of the responsibility forever. Of course, that assumes that the mother could make a rational choice, which she apparently could not. Now the daughter is dead and the mother is facing life in prison after pleading "not guilty" to having killed her. Child welfare and school authorities were very concerned but had been unable to locate the pair, who had moved across state lines, with the mother always trying to evade them. She took her child to Utah, where she thought California officials would be unable to track them. Yet, since the girl was now 9, the mother had already done the hardest part of raising her. The child was killed by a shot to the head. RIP Melodee Buzzard.

Now Melodee's mother, shown here with dyed hair as part of her disguise, is serving a life sentence. She should never be released, even for good behavior, as she is just lucky that California has no death penalty

A reader has sent me the following link, should anyone care to delve further into examining Van Gogh's painting  Starry Night, posted last time.

Problems, problems, so can we still keep going here?

The prior post just cut off right in the middle of a sentence, then simply resisted even being corrected. Will things be any better this time around? Let's find out right now. I really hate to give up the blog. It's my way of communicating with friends and family in different time zones all around the world. But if you can no longer find it here, then I will actually have given up. Or is it time now to launch a brand new blog, version 3?

I won't attempt to again post the item about a baby being born in an Italian village, after 30 years without any babies being born there. That's what seems to have messed things up last time. If interested, you might look it up yourself.

We had left off with International Health Service of Minnesota, an all-volunteer force that I have worked with as a volunteer interpreter many times. IHS has been going to Honduras for 40 years now and is definitely worthy of your support. All contributions go into purchasing medications and equipment. Volunteers pay all their own travel expenses. I have very much enjoyed working with IHS medical services and also with their dental clinics. Medical brigades are actually fun but also a lot of work, requiring considerable ingenuity because supplies are so limited. Strong comaraderie develops among volunteers.

IHS has another Honduras mission scheduled now for February.

I have gone to places I would never have seen without IHS. I've also volunteered in Honduras with Doctors Without Borders, another medical non-profit, and with several dental clinics. I've helped suture wounds and deliver babies ss well, though in the Peace Corps, we weren't allowed to render any direct care (partly because we might not be capable and also to prevent lawsuits against presumed American deep pockets). Since I have been going to Honduras on my own, I have done whatever I feel capable of doing, especially when no one else has been available. But now at age 87, maybe I am done.

Kennedy Center seeks $1m from musician who cancelled after Trump name added to venue

It sounds not very prestigious to say on your resume that you appeared at the Trump Kennedy Center.

Fox, Trump teases marble armrests for Kennedy Center: ‘Unlike anything ever seen before.'

In a post shared to Truth Social on Friday, Dec. 26, the president, 79, featured Trump armrests. Trump has posted photos of several white pieces of marble, which he has said were being considered as armrests for seating at that performing arts institution in Washington, D.C.

"Potential Marble armrests for the seating at The Trump Kennedy Center," Trump wrote alongside the photos. "Unlike anything ever done or seen before!"

This is in addition to renaming it the Trump-Kennedy Center.

Marble armrests actually don't sound very comfortable. How about just regular upholstered armrests?

Trump is still out there trumping, but not quite as much as before. He doesn't look like he is enjoying himself anymore, even when he happens to be awake. Is he getting tired of being president? Is he getting tired of life?
Many of us are getting tired of having Trump as president.

This question indicates that Trump himself is getting pretty weary of being president and might actually prefer to quit. Then he can snooze to his heart's content and play golf whenever he feels like it. What else does Trump enjoy? That's about it.

If Mr. Trump should actually retire, then we'd have JD Vance, age 41,as president, who could then run again at least once, maybe even twice.

Instead, what about Kamala Harris or even Gavin Newsom? Don't we Democrats have some better people? I'd really like to see a woman president at long last. Even Honduras has had a female president. So what about a Harris/Newsom ticket? (My son, looking over my shoulder here now, is shaking his head.)

CNN’s Daniel Dale Counts Down Donald Trump’s ‘Top 25 Lies of 2025’

===============================================

CNN, How a backroad discovery led to the arrest of Melodee Buzzard’s

mother in the child’s ‘calculated’ killing

A California mother named Ashlee Buzzard has been accused of first-degree murder in the shooting death of her 9-year-old daughter, Melodee Buzzard. The mother, Ashlee Buzzard, pleaded not guilty to the charges during her arraignment on December 26, 2025.
Her daughter's remains were found by accident by a couple taking photos in rural Utah.

It looks like this mother, after killing her daughter by shooting her in the head, then went to
great lengths to cover up the crime and to disguise herself with wigs and makeup. She hid the remains in a remote area of Utah, never expecting them to be found.
Relatively few murders are committed by women, most often of an abusive male partner. A mother might also kill a newborn baby that she never wanted or because of post-partum depression soon after a birth. (I've experienced post-partum
depression myself, very scary.) Or a mother might kill a seriously
disabled child, but it would be very rare for her to kill an apparently healthy, normal 9-year-old after having raised her to that point. (The girl's father had died in an
accident years ago.)

While California authorities have indicated that they won't seek the death penalty, the mother, Ashlee Buzzard, is apt to be shunned by other inmates during her lifetime in prison. They certainly will know why she is there and may avoid even associating with her. (She might actually prefer solitary confinement.) There are not many lifers in women's prisons. Why did she do it? Does that even matter now?

Ashlee Buzzard appeared in court with her hair dyed. She had also used various disguises and wigs.
