Donald Trump keeps nodding off; is he even paying attention any more?

 After having lots of trouble posting last time, I'm starting out anew here, hoping to have better luck this time.

 Actually. I'm not feeling great right now, having just had a cracked tooth pulled out (in 2 pieces), as I had apparently bitten down on something hard causing an upper molar to split in two. A simple extraction cost me over $1,000 and involved far too many people who had to be paid: the receptionist, a nurse practitioner, a nurse, and the doctor who actually pulled out the 2 pieces of the broken tooth; all for $1,000. Instead, I could have taken a plane trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, my former Peace Corps country, where I could have had the extraction done by a woman dentist there who knows me and would still have had money left over. 

And now water keeps leaking into the basement, not sure why, but I've confronted many worse problems before, including initial rejection by my family when I'd married my late former husband who was totally blind and had never worked before, then an unwanted divorce after 24 years marriage, after that my former husband emptying out all our bank accounts before marrying his new younger sweetheart in Las Vegas, and, worst of all, the untimely deaths of my older son and Cuban foster son. At age 87, I'm still standing, expecting now to carry on for a few more years, primero Dios [God willing].

My younger daughter, currently on furlough from her federal job, has been visiting us from Hawaii. Here we were with my son, with whom I live now, before going out for breakfast at the Country Inn, a local hotel afilliated with CoolFont, the establishment where my son had worked before it had burned down. 

While my daughter was here, as I said, I had the broken tooth taken out for a grand total of $1,000! 

Donald Trump keeps dozing off when he used to be a night owl. Much of his day is scheduled for "executive time," as he seems now to be getting up about noon and going to bed before nightfall. Still, Mr. Trump can barely keep his eyes open during meetings held during his few waking hours.

• President Trump's ambitious plan aims to implement the largest domestic deportation program in U.S. history, with a target of removing a million individuals annually. This initiative is a core aspect of his administration's immigration policy.

Why? What actually is the point of deporting so many millions? We really urgently need them to stay right here now, which is why they are still coming. Our country is simply not producing enough native-born folks, not enough workers, not nearly enough babies just for starters. American women have decided they don't want to have so many babies or so many children needing to be raised to adulthood, and now, defying Mother Nature, they know how to prevent that, even while enjoying the pleasures of sex. As I said before, 2 kids is the favored maximum number of children in this country now. Since many US women are having only one or no children, the actual average is even much lower now, only 1.6, which is not enough for replacement, which would be 2.1. So we still do need those immigrants. And the world-at-large still needs more babies, since the total number of newborns, even worldwide, is shrinking 

Google, that all-knowing data source, declares: The global total fertility rate was 2.2 births per woman in 2023, a significant drop from previous decades. This is close to the replacement-level fertility rate of 2.1

So why, pray tell, is the Trump administration still deporting so many people from the US right now--just to provide federal agents with a job? Is it merely to give Mr. Trump something to brag about? Do most current US citizens and residents actually support these wholesale deportations? And do we really want to keep hollowing-out our country, leaving behind only old people like me? Probably a majority of us, the folks still living here right now, don't really want anything like that. Since the US is not producing enough babies, now we really do need to have those immigrants to stay put right here.

Mr. Trump, when he is actually awake, goes crazy posting wild nonsensical assertions. So we urgently need to get Trump out of office very soon  Three years is simply too long to wait for him to retire as he sinks further into dementia. Biden was fading mentally and now, unfortunately, so is Donald Trump. I may regret saying this, but JD Vance could not be worse. I do recognize dementia and memory loss in Trump because I am experiencing some of that also in myself at age 87. But even so, my memory and cognition are a tad better than Donald Trump's, which seem to be regressing at a really alarming rate.

A highly critical Washington Post editorial is warning that Zohran Mamdani 'drops the mask' after his recent mayoral election win, and also refers to his 'seething' victory speech. Is that really a fair assessment? The Post editorial predicts dire consequences for the city under Mamdani's mandate. It should now be noted that the Post is owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, a long-time foe, never ever a friend, of Mamdani's. So how much credence does Bezos' alarming warning actually deserve? We haven't seen any such warnings elsewhere.

Here is a clue: Mamdani has been critical of Israeli actions in Israel and Palestine, the likely reason for Bezos' attacks against him. Bezos is Netanyahu's very close friend, so is now helping Netanyahu stay in power and avoid a trial for his many misdeeds, so that is the main reason for Bezos' odd statement. (As previously noted, "birds of feather...stick together.")

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the so-called "right to bear arms" has killed more people than have ever been protected. As mentioned previously on these pages, at age 11, my son Jon was shot in the foot by a gun discovered in a neighbor's bedside drawer, then dropped by another boy while the parents were out, discharging and hitting my son only in the foot, an injury which still bothers him today, but could easily have killed him. 

This early Ford motor car, called a "Tin Lizzie," was manufactured from 1908 to 1927, and its affordable price allowed many Americans to actually own one. Horses that had pulled conveyances were then put out to pasture. 

During World War II, I well remember we were able to buy horsemeat at the grocery store, but as a young child, I refused to eat it. I didn't want to be eating a horse, but a chicken back then was OK. Now I avoid eating any meat, especially from a 4-egged animal. I do sometimes now eat chicken or fish, especially when living now with my son, who is not a vegetarian. When I was in the Peace Corps in Honduras, I consumed milk, cheese, and eggs, but no meat. Without actually having refrigeration, it would have been hard to keep meat anyway. I once saw a cow in Honduras being killed with an ax, then butchered, which certainly turned me off beef forever.

And those cartels are so powerful because of the drug demand right here in the USA.

My former neighbor back in DC, that same fabulous cook, keeps sending me photos of tasty dishes that she continues to make. The latest are dog treats which our dog Willow would certainly like to try. My DC neighbor says this about these treats:

Xmas trees are embedded w/ bacon bits. The cheese puffballs are infused w/ cheddar and mozzarella and crema. I found a couple of dog treat cookbooks, and the recipes are more ‘interesting’ than most found online. I also did a banana peanut butter treat that went over well with three dachshunds. 

She also has made something for humans that she calls "Red Lobster copycat biscuits." 

Alas, since I no longer live in Washington, DC, I'll just have to enjoy these biscuits "remotely" now.
