Justice Department announces a $1.7B fund to compensate Trump allies in a
deal to drop IRS suit\
Hegseth campaigned in Kentucky for Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL
who is trying to unseat Rep. Thomas Massie, the GOP’s harshest critic
of the Iran war — and of Trump. The Defense [War] secretary’s remarks
— which came after he awarded medals to service members at nearby
Fort Campbell — were unusual for the civilian head of the military,
who has traditionally avoided overt political posturing. And it’s
the latest norm-busting move from a Pentagon leader who has
sought to bring religion into the department, review the role of women
in combat and eradicate diversity efforts
in the military.
Massie is guilty of “too much grandstanding, too few great votes, years of
acting like being difficult is the same thing as being courageous; it’s not,”
Hegseth said, while delivering his usual talking points about the perils of
“dudes in dresses” and “woke” policies in the military.
